COMMUNITY TRAUMA RESPONSIVE COUNSELING INITIATIVE
The Community Trauma Responsive Counseling Program serves clients throughout Broward County. These trauma services primarily focus on those individuals that were affected by the mass shooting that occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on February 14, 2018 which resulted in the deaths of seventeen people. Broward County’s Deerfield Beach community has also experienced significant traumatic grief since December 2019. As a community, we are attempting to build a systemic response to these types of traumas to include bereavement services. Additionally, since March 2020, Broward County has been experiencing significant traumatic effects from COVID-19. As a community, we will provide trauma therapy and other related services to assist youth and families impacted by this pandemic.
After a traumatic event, there is a critical need to immediately connect to mental health services and waiting weeks or even months can result in the progression of mental health issues for youth and their family members. With the help of: Kids in Distress, Memorial Healthcare System, Henderson Behavioral Health, Smith Community Mental Health, Banyan Health Systems, Chrysalis Health, and Shine MSD, Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention (FISP), South Florida Wellness Network, and Tomorrow’s Rainbow the Children Service’s Council of Broward County and Broward Behavioral Health Coalition, Inc. hope to provide the services needed for the victims of these tragic events.
