SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR)
BBHC, in partnership with the Department of Children and Families, is leading the implementation of SOAR in Broward County. SOAR is a national model designed to increase access to the disability income benefit programs (SSI/SSDI) administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for eligible adults who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness; and have a mental illness, medical impairment, and/or a co-occurring substance use disorder. The Broward SOAR initiative welcomes agencies throughout BBHC’s provider network and the local Homeless Continuum of Care to engage in meetings and learning opportunities to expand use of the SOAR model when assisting for people we serve in applying for SSI/SSDI.
As part of the Housing Initiative, the BBHC Housing & SOAR/Entitlements Coordinator is responsible for oversight and implementation of the SOAR initiative in DCF’s Circuit 17 (Broward County). BBHC, working in coordination with with contracted providers and Homeless Continuum of Care agencies, promotes the use of SOAR to ensure access to housing and employment through entitlements and work incentive supports for persons without income. Staff who process SOAR applications (SOAR Processors) must complete the on-line SOAR training and obtain a Certificate of Completion.
